On March 16, 2016, Leslie J. Snyder presented an overview of the responsibilities of Zoning Boards of Appeal (“ZBA”) entitled “Zoning Board Primer – What You Need to Know” to the Westchester Municipal Planning Federation’s Land Use Training Institute. The presentation outlined the key functions that ZBAs furnish to municipalities, and provided a case digest of New York land use law decisions involving ZBAs in New York State. The cases were presented in one of six categories: area variances, use variances, interpretations of zoning ordinances, de novo review of building permits and certificates of occupancy, nonconforming uses, and special permits. The presentation was brought to life with questions by many members of local zoning and Planning boards. Snyder & Snyder, LLP has enjoyed providing case law updates to the Westchester Municipal Planning Federation since 2005, and looks forward to making similar presentations in years to come.
